Interim NYSE Chief John Reed has been charged with the unenviable task of restoring confidence in the Exchange. To do so, he must first strip special interests of their undue influence, remove the old boys network that allowed former NYSE Chairman Richard Grasso to accumulate an obscenely excessive compensation package, and establish a mechanism for regulating listed companies and brokerage firms.Meaningful reform can only be assessed in retrospect, after changes have had an opportunity to take hold. Mr. Reed's first moves have all of the hallmarks of true reform - at least on the surface - but appearances can be deceiving. The notion of "independent" directors at the NYSE is a good one, but the proposed initial slate, which is laden with former officers of NYSE companies and former executives at major Wall Street brokerage firms, may offer little more than the illusion of independence.

Good game, but it is one of the most frustrating I've ever played, just when you think you've got a great army, and all your towns are well defended. Out of nowhere the enemy has gathered an army twice the size of yours and they obliterate you, town by town. Its really one of the worst things to see.
