New Members for Fishery Panels
New Members for Fishery Panels
Author: Feb 4, 2000
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration today announced the selection of members for two advisory panels that assist NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service in the collection and evaluation of information on future management of the fisheries for Atlantic billfish, tunas, swordfish and sharks.
Rep. Jim Saxton ( 3rd District) has long been one of the most dedicated members of Congress when it comes to working on fisheries issues. His seniority should have moved him into the chairmanship of the House Resources Committee this year, but that seat has traditionally been occupied by westerners and Saxton will instead be devoting much of his time to chairmanship of a new panel on internal terrorism.
Investment Opportunity The Highly Migratory Species Advisory Panel and the Atlantic Billfish Advisory Panel were formed to meet requirements of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act. Panel members assist NOAA Fisheries in meeting requirements of the Magnuson-Stevens Act, including development of fishery management plans, and amendments to plans.
The administrator may, at its discretion, invite Business control panel members and appoint more Business control panel administrators. All control panel administrators are required to be authorized representatives of the business of the company and shall have equal rights to manage the Business control panel account, and they shall be jointly and severally responsible for the administration and control of the Business control panel. As a member of a Business control panel, you shall be directly responsible for your compliance with this agreement and the End User License agreement, and liable for any breach thereof, in accordance with such agreements.
That question reflects two circumstances of Panama's fledgling Atlantic fishery, at least from my experience. For one thing, truly new recreational fisheries are increasingly rare in our shrinking world. Most fisheries developed in areas where the conservation ethic of Western sport fishermen was unknown and became a factor only later, often at odds with local practices of keeping every fish caught to sell. publicized release ethic of U.S. anglers has preceded the new fishery.
Banking Investment Panel members are selected based on their experience and interest in highly migratory species management, and represent a balance of recreational and commercial fishing interests and related industries, environmentalists, academics and government agencies.
While the new appointment is prestigious, and Saxton will continue to serve on the Resources Committee, anglers would much rather have seen him win the Resources chairmanship. Saxton served as chairman of the Fisheries Conservation Subcommittee until term limits required a change. He has maintained an active role in fisheries issues, and works closely with Rep. Frank Pallone on the other side of the aisle to keep fisheries conservation at the forefront.
The 80 members of the cooperative have recently undertaken investments on a colossal scale, with the renovation of the vatting rooms and installation of barrels in an aging cellar.
