Loretta and The Melismatics coming to rock Marty's
Date 11/13/2003 6:00 AM | Topic: Arts & CultureTwo rising rock bands, Loretta and The Melismatics, will be performing at Marty's Friday, Nov. 14, starting at 8:00 p.m.
Loretta is an Indianapolis-based rock band that consists of Jim Shaffer, Stan Muller, and brothers Jason, Damon, and Jeremy Weidner.
The band's sound has been compared to U2, early Radiohead, and Sunny Day Real Estate, and they are noted for their energetic live shows.
Loretta garnered an avid following by performing regularly at venues in the Indianapolis area and regional cities, enticing fans with their rousing performances, and winning over critics.
Shawn Delaney of Shotgun Reviews wrote, "Loretta's album, The Translation, is an amazing introduction to one of Indianapolis' finest rock outfits, offering up a virtual tour de force of layered guitars, terrific harmonies, and boundless energy."
Loretta is on a national tour in support of their recently released album, The Translation, which is sitting at number 76 on the CMJ charts, and has enjoyed being the #1 played album on national specialty radio. The single "Slow Down" was the #1 song on the XM Radio Radar Report at the time of the album's release in October.
The Translation is Loretta's debut album since the band changed its name in Sept. 2001. Formerly known as Jihad, the band released an EP demo called Reincher Rinchoff in 1999.
The Melismatics are a pop-rock band from Minneapolis. The band is fronted by guitarists Ryan Smith and Jeremy Ylvisaker, and features Mark Wade on bass and Ron Caron on drums.
The Melismatics boast of unpredictable and dangerous live shows, while honing a powerful guitar-driven sound.
The band released their sophomore album New Infection in September and has enjoyed some success on college radio and regional venues.
The band received high praise for their debut album, Postmodern Rock, which was released in 2001.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune wrote, "If there is such a thing as classic alternative rock, The Melismatics are champions of it."
Demorama described the CD as "just plain awesome enough to stand out on its own as an example of fun, exciting rock."
