Tearful request of a lifelong Cubs fan

Tearful request of a lifelong Cubs fan

Date 10/2/2003 12:00 AM | Topic: Sports

Bank Of America Investment After suffering through nearly a century of less-than-mediocre baseball clubs, my day in the sun has finally come. My life-long journey as a Cubs fan has been a little bit like trying to navigate an oil drum out of the Bermuda Triangle; completely and utterly hopeless.

Hi, I Brian English, and I e worked at Abt for three years in the internet sales department. I a lifelong Cubs fan and have enjoyed plenty of riendly discussions with Carl Prouty ( to see Carl own blog entry) over which Chicago baseball team is better. I do not believe in the supposed Cubs curse involving a goat, so I looking forward to watching my team in the World Series this October on my new Panasonic TH42PX80U plasma television.

Investment Opportunity Sure, there was the team of '89, the "Boys of Zimmer." The Hawk, Ryno, Sutcliffe, and a young Mark Grace who all chipped in to miraculously lead the Cubbies to an National League East Division title. But alas, I couldn't personally take much from this storied season. I was six at the time, and my knowledge of the team has been constructed through the legendary stories passed down by a couple of desperate Cubs fans trying to relive those glory days.

Thu, Sep 27, 2007 Loss Loosens Cubs' Grip on NL Central Sep 26, AP Sports Writer MIAMI (AP) - Panic, Cubs fans. The Cubs' grip on the NL Central lead became shaky Wednesday night, place Florida Marlins, 4. place Milwaukee, which played St. Louis. The Cubs' magic number for clinching the division remained at four with four games left in the regular season.

Banc Of America Investment The wild card team of '98 gave me my first taste of a Cubbies team in postseason play, and how they clinched the wildcard that season was only fitting. They needed to win a one game playoff against the Giants, which would have been unnecessary if it weren't for a dropped fly ball by young Cubbie Brant Brown. Luckily for the Cubs, Rockies outfielder Juan Pierre hit a late inning homerun against the Giants to force the playoff. The Cubs won the playoff, but must have felt that was enough success for one season, and made a swift exit in the first round against the Braves.

to see the Chicago Cubs have been a part of the baseball tickets market in Chicago since the Cubs became a team in 1902. Famously, the Cubs haven't won a World Series title since 1908, the longest championships dry spell in the four major American professional sports. Boston got their championship a few years back, but Cubs fans are still pondering if curses really exist.

Banking Investment These two seasons were of course exceptions to the common rule in Wrigley; losing. The all too familiar dropped balls, booted grounders, overthrows, and taking of strike three right down the pipe that have become synonymous with Cubs baseball are so engraved in my memory that I do not know how to react to this season.

The history of the Chicago Cubs is filled with ups and downs and iconic figures on and off the field all while residing in one of the most recognizable ballparks in baseball. It is no secret that the Chicago Cubs are known for their futility when it comes to winning world championships, having not won one since 1908, but you wouldn't know it by looking at the fans of the Chicago Cubs. Die hard fans sell out Chicago Cubs tickets year in and year out, filling Wrigley Field to cheer on their Cubbies! Without a doubt Chicago Cubs tickets are one of the hardest to find, so check out TicketNetwork for the best selection of seats. Get your cheap Chicago Cubs tickets today!

Investment Solution Strategic Every time Antonio Alfonseca trots out to the mound, I expect to see an 8 run inning. Every time a routine double play ball rolls to Alex Gonzalez, I expect to see him kick it into the seats. And every time I see any Cub up with the bases loaded and no outs, I know a strikeout and double play are right around the corner.

Investment Banking Services But these intuitions that have been shaped by year after year of bad baseball in Chicago have been refreshingly wrong. The Cubs were able to break their usual habit of folding in August by actually going out and getting some decent players, and may just have the horses to make a push in the playoffs.

Bank Investment They face the annual contenders of the National League East, the Atlanta Braves, who boast the best power numbers in the majors this year, but the young and talented starting rotation of the Cubs just may be cocky enough to get the job done. If not we can always turn to the age-old adage of Cubs fans. "Wait till next year."

Guide Investment Stock Regardless, I am sure if Cubs fans listen closely they can hear Harey Carey's voice floating above them slurring, "Cubs win, Cubs win!"
